Peter Swallow, elected Bracknell MP with a majority of just 784 votes, has turned on the Labour-controlled Bracknell Forest Council, over some environmental desecration by a local property developer.
While clearing land onto which they wanted to build over 200 new houses, Hill Group, due to the poor leadership of the Labour-controlled council, took it upon themselves to destroy hundreds more trees than they should have, permanently damaging the natural habitats of numerous local species during the spring breeding season when many species are especially vulnerable.
Unlike the Greens, who stood on the sidelines during the wanton destruction, Bracknell Conservatives were quick to highlight the matter, but the damage had already been done. The trees had already been destroyed. It is only Bracknell Conservatives that will hold Labour amateurs to account for their failures of oversight.
Now Labour councillor Guy Gillbe, cabinet member for planning, transport and countryside, has belatedly joined the Labour MP in attacking his own Labour council's failures in planning in the countryside, but in the mildest manner possible, by claiming the tree-felling was done “by mistake”. The mistake is Labour's in not knowing what is happening in Bracknell Forest, and residents are once again paying the price for their negligence.
Only Labour is planning to take the forest out of Bracknell's countryside. Only the Conservatives are planning to stop this.
